While on a hike at Cape Point Nature Reserve, I was struck by the sheer majesty and beauty of this location, which I wanted to capture. I've always been into nature and this shoot was my way of paying homage to this incredible space. My desire was simply to create something beautiful.
What a backdrop to offset beautiful Lauryn, who I'd shot before in Kenya. I love her looks; this seemed a perfect pairing of person and place! My inspiration was to capture beauty in all its forms - Lauryn, the location, and the movement of the fabrics.
“I’m quite instinctive, and like to shoot wide but I don’t always capture the details. Caren is a lot more studied and detail-orientated than me. She has an incredible eye for pairing landscape and details. My lesson - delve deeper into the details!”

My intention for this collaborative shoot was to observe and document the in-between moments, and I searched for shapes and textures that evoked that feeling at Cape Point Nature Reserve. The starting point for this collaboration was Alexa's vision to shoot with the backdrop of the dramatic cliffs at the beautiful Cape Point. Sheer fabrics, fluid garments and body shapes set against and flowing with nature.Collaborating is a dance of respect and observation, as well as confidence. Being invited by a photographer with the track record of Alexa, who captures magical images, was pretty daunting.
“ I started shooting to create images to collage with. I like shooting shapes that I can later work into an art piece. I rarely shoot wide. So working with Alexa who is so skilled at creating a cinematic image helped open my eyes. Also she took the team to a truly incredible location!”
