We thought about writing our bios, but really, the fact that Cherry is a landscape designer/master gardener and I'm someone who's had 36 jobs, mainly in journalism, isn't relevant. Rather, this is who we are: two rather raggedy old women, basically bag ladies, setting off on a journey. I'm Hazel Woodward, 69 years and 11 months (I don't want to be seventy one single day sooner than I have to) and Cherry Deutschländer, who is 78 and still full of the joys of life. I wanted to go to Mexico because of the colours and Cherry is an inveterate traveller who is game for any new adventure. We didn’t book much ahead, just decided to go to places that backpackers and hostel goers suggested. We were, on average, 40 years older than the people in the youth hostels we stayed in. I like to go with the flow, stop, write, and dive deeply into detail and human nature - and Cherry is dynamic and sussed, with loads of experience at taking buses and trains and finding interesting byways. Her knees are giving in but her mind is razor-sharp. We are two very different personalities who have loved each other for just over fifty years. For iseeyousee magazine I visualise our journey mainly through writing while Cherry took almost all the photographs.
