Theytjie: A Storyteller Through Lenses and Layers Born and raised in Belhar on the Cape Flats, Theytjie is a non-binary Coloured artist whose work captivates through its layered storytelling and raw emotion. Now based in Stellenbosch, Theytjie uses photography as their primary medium to explore themes of identity, memory, and healing. Their work challenges stereotypes, highlights marginalized voices, and reclaims the narrative around Coloured identity in South Africa. Theytjie’s series, such as “Tape Up” and “Laaties,” offer unflinching insight into the lived experiences of transgender individuals and Rastafarian youth, respectively.
